
Dr Arif Qadir
Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Arif Qadir is a UK-qualified and trained Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over a decade of experience working in the National Health Service (NHS). A dedicated Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Dr Qadir currently practices within the NHS and privately. He achieved membership with the Royal College in 2009, the same year he completed a Diploma in Psychiatry at the University of Leeds.
Dr Qadir is ADI-R ( Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised ) trained and has held significant leadership roles, including as the Medical Clinical Lead within his service, and he presently serves as the Medical Lead for the Crisis Team in Kirklees CAMHS. Over the past ten years, he has been actively involved in teaching and training, providing guidance to medical and non-medical students, nursing colleagues, trainee Clinical Psychologists, and other allied professionals.
Dr Qadir maintains high standards in his professional practice, as reflected in annual reviews in alignment with the General Medical Council (GMC) and Royal College of Psychiatrists' guidelines. His appraisals are conducted yearly, with his revalidation secured through September 2028. Additionally, he is an Approved Clinician and holds Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act of 1983.
In his supervisory role, Dr Qadir mentors Specialty Doctors and Non-Medical Prescribers within his service. His clinical expertise spans the assessment and formulation of comprehensive care plans based on the biopsychosocial model, particularly for common mental health conditions and developmental disorders in children and adolescents. His special interests include the assessment and treatment of Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and other prevalent mental health disorders.
Dr Qadir integrates various psychotherapeutic techniques in his work, engaging young people and their families in meaningful assessment and treatment planning. His approach frequently incorporates CBT-based models and reflective practices to enhance assessment formulation and treatment outcomes. With extensive training and experience, Dr Qadir is adept at devising risk assessment and management plans, addressing risks that may affect young people and families, whether to themselves or others.
